Apollonia Kotero

Patricia Apollonia Kotero is an American actress singer and former model. She was the lead female vocalist for Apollonia 6 and co-starred in Prince's film Purple Rain from 1984. It was among the many female artists that benefited from Prince's association during the 1980s. Patricia Kotero was born in Santa Monica, California in the year 1959. Her first professional venture was with modeling in the latter part of 1970. Kotero also was a guest on CHiPS. In 1984 she landed the title of female lead for Prince's Purple Rain (during which time the singer altered her name) and was replaced by Vanity in the female duo Vanity 6 singing with them on the screen with the title Apollonia 6. Sex Shooter, a song from the soundtrack had a small hit for her trio but as Prince's Duet Partner on Take Me with You she was more successful. The two were disagreement about the direction of her career Apollonia 6 broke up, and Kotero ended her association with Prince. She then appeared in a couple of films that were minor during the 80s (reportedly declining an offer to star in the follow-up to Purple Rain Under the Cherry Moon) and then settled on a night-time role in the drama Falcon Crest in 1985-1986. Apollonia released her first album in 1988, but it was a fairly pedestrian album of dance music and R&B that failed to impress the people. The album was quickly wiped from view. The following decade saw she continued to be active in the field of acting (if she was a bit off the radar), with minor TV roles, movies and an exercise video. Apollonia created a bilingual Spanish and English album titled Stay With Me. After that, she attended school and earned an education in filmmaking. In addition, she founded her own production firm. Apart from Purple Rain, she's been in numerous TV shows films, including Black Magic Woman or The Divorce Ceremony. Kotero debuted her career as a model.
